WHAT I’M WEARING

top: joie via thredUP c/o | jeans: ag {obsessed!; last worn here + here} | shoes: soludos | clutch: star mela {old} | glasses: nasty gal {prada version here} | necklace: jillybean jewelry c/o | watch: michael kors | rings: bauble bar c/o, gorjana | lips: ‘viva glam nicki’ by mac {old}

I’ve never been much of a thrift store shopper for one main reason: I hate the amount of time it takes to shop at a thrift store. I’d have to clear my whole day just to browse the aisles waiting for something to pop out at me or for a coveted name brand item to catch my eye, in my size. But if someone told me I could conveniently shop secondhand clothing items online (when, where and at a pace that’s convenient for me), I’d be thrilled.

Enter: thredUP

ThredUP is an amazing resource for women’s and kids’ high-quality secondhand fashion with a range of brands from J.Crew and Madewell to Joie (my blouse above) and Tory Burch. And every item is up to 90% off the original retail price.

Here are three reasons why I think it’s smart to shop secondhand first:

Now that I’m a mom, I have to stretch my budget, so finding designer clothes, bags and baby clothes for way less is good for my wallet;

I can use the money I saved to buy other things (clothing or not) so it won’t take as long to save up for them (ahem, we’ll be house hunting soon); and

I can quickly shop online for a great secondhand deal (or should I say steal?) before I do my regular online shopping… even if I don’t find something every time, I’ll at least feel better that I tried (#guiltfree).

. . .

I snagged a little screenshot below of my recent thredUP purchase to show you the other items I bought and how much I saved. The coolest part about the shopping experience is that you can save your favorite brands to your profile, so if you only want to browse ‘skirts from J.Crew in size 6,’ you don’t have to waste time looking at everything else (again, the benefit of online vs. your neighborhood thrift store).

If you’re curious to see what name-brand items you can find at thredUP, go take a peek and be sure to bring this promo code with you:

LMF40

… it will get you 40% off your first purchase (max discount $50) through October 1, 2016.

    shopping second hand can sometimes be frustrating for me but it’s such an achievement when you find something you love! a lot of my friends are pretty ‘ew’ about the idea but i think it’s fabulous

    • I feel the same! I can relate to the ‘ew’ factor a bit. I can’t bring myself to buy secondhand shoes, but love saving money on everything else! 🙂
