Whoa, let’s just take a second and look at that hair! Sometimes I miss the length, but mostly I feel so much more fashionable with my new, long bob. And I must say I like a vampy lip even more now that my hair is shorter. But enough about me. Lauren has some great tips for incorporating a beautiful vampy lip this season…

Holiday is more than just sparkles and red lipstick.

When you think of the holidays and makeup looks, chances are, you think of gold shimmery eyes and bright red lips, am I right? Well, while I love a glamorous gold smokey eye paired with a perfect red lip, sometimes I like to switch it up.

Deep vampy shades are often my go-to during the late fall and winter months. There’s just something empowering about walking out of the house with rich, sultry lips. I like to pair the vampy with a light, natural smokey eye. I don’t know who made the rule that you can’t pair dramatic eyes with dramatic lips, but I find myself to be a bit of a rule breaker.

Now, it’s important to strike a balance. If you want the vampy lips to be the focal point, lay low on the eye makeup. However, I’d still recommend at least a little swipe of color on the lids. You don’t want to come out looking like Wednesday Adams!

If you have fairer features, like Amanda, don’t be afraid of the vampy look. Just alter the colors a bit to suit your skin tone. For blondes, I would recommend going for more deep berry shades like MAC Rebel, Sonia Kashuk in Currant 84, Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte in Forbidden Burgundy, or even a dark berry gloss like Revlon’s Liquid Lipstick in Brilliant Bordeaux.

If you have darker features…have fun with it! I can sometimes pull off shades that are almost close to black! For everyday vampy lips, I love MAC Lipliner in Nightmoth basically paired with anything. My favorite pairings: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu, Revlon Lipstick in Black Cherry, Kevyn Aucoin Lipstick in Bloodroses or even an oxblood gloss like NARS Lipgloss in Rouge Tribal.

Remember, filling in your lips with the perfect lipliner can change the whole look!
